Form of energy that penetrates space and time. The energy is transferred by periodic waves. Electromagnetic energy is often also described as a stream of small particles (photons). The spectrum of electromagnetic radiation includes high-energy gamma rays and X-rays as well as infrared light and radio waves. Electromagnetic radiation is classified by frequency or wavelength respectively and makes up the electromagnetic spectrum.
